Hop is one of the best rivals in a long time. He has a true character. Hes constantly overshadowed by his star older brother and it shows in his overconfidence and eventual shattering of confidence when he loses to Bede. No, hes not Silver but hes a true human and the best rival in many generations for sure.
Hop is a fine character with good development throughout the story. He goes from a kid who looks up to his brother so much that it obscures his own identity, into someone more full of himself and of his own accord. He isn’t the Champions little brother, he isn’t your rival, he’s Hop. But loss after loss he slowly loses confidence in his own ability and it kinda hurts to see him lose at every turn of his adventure.
IMO Hop is one of the best rivals we ever had. His story reflects a lot of people’s life: trying your best at doing something you FEEL like is your life goal, then slowly figure out that things aren’t working out and ultimately find the right path.
I like Hop. He’s fun as a rival and I like that he switches up his team it keeps you in your toes. I would love it though if there were more trainers in the competition so that it feels more engaging and realistic, though I wonder how replay for this particular championship will work.
I originally thought he was a bit too similar to Hau, but when you look at the two of them closely, you realise that there are some key differences. Hop actually subverted my original expectations of him I. The best possible way and Marnie and Bede did the same. I honestly think the Sw/Sh rivals are my favourite in the series
That part of the game really killed the mood for me …
All game you don’t get to participate in any kind of story, you’re just out there to get the badges. And when you finally get to get involved, it’s you battling this Macro Cosmos dude over and over again for no obvious reason. This feels like some bad post-game mission, not the actual story of a main series game.
Honestly I feel like he wasn’t that good in the beginning, but that’s how most good characters are. They just become better and better throughout the story, and its cool how he continues switching out his team, something not many trainers (including players) actually do
I really don’t like hop that much despite the interesting team change up because he’s really bad at using the Pokémon he has even though they’re pretty good. He also talks about how good he is even though he looses to you every time.
I like him. He doesn’t stay the same, like all the other rivals. You see some real character development from him and, honestly, all the characters. I love Hop. I ended up growing quite fond of him, after all the things we went through in the story.
So when I was playing Pokemon Shield, I was playing with my Pokemon and omg Snom is freaking adorable. When I play ball with it or call it out, it slowly crawls to me. It was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! I will say that Snom is the cutest Bug Pokemon ever!♥️
I don’t like how Hop keeps switching up his team and think he should make up his mind. It works for him though and is ok. I like how he doubts himself and has character development. His jacket is cool and he seems real down to earth.
Just the rival I knew he was!!….. Trash, like a damn Magikarp
I do love hop, but I destroyed his team with 5 randoms from my box . After every battle in the league I picked four or five new Pokemon leveled them up with some candies and left their moveset alone to make the league more a challenge
I like Hop. He’s a nice combination of Barry and Hau. I like Bede more for the snooty rival take and Marnie is adorable, plus dark type is my favorite type so her future career makes mr excited 😁😁😁 Still I like N and Hugh from Gen 5 as rivals for their stories. Then Barry, Hau and Gladion. Blue is the O.G. Silver…I’m bias because Gen Two games rub me thr wrong way lol
